| People are split over this question: How long will the Wild Cat last? Some say that it has been studied so much this off season that teams will immediately shut it down whenever it's executed. Others say that it has too many variations and is expanding to more team's offensive playbooks to be considered obsolete. Now it's your turn to tell us what you think. Give us legitimate reasons why you believe that the Wild Cat will or will not last in the NFL. Sound off! |

| Wildcat will last in the NFL, is only a matter of who can execute it effectively and do it at the right times according to time of play, and field position.
The Dolphins will obviously incorporate Pat White, which is good since he is QB/WR type so that makes him a double threat which makes the defenses adjust up their schemes and not even know whats going on. The play should be determined as option like should I run, hand the ball to Ricky/Ronnie or go a nice 15 yard pass to Fasano. With that said Wildcat will stay but it must be used wisely and effectively for example:
If I were Henning or Sparano I would not call the Wildcat behind the 20 yard line, nor in the red zone. If the defense has a weak run defense I would expect to see some running by Ricky or Ronnie to make a considerable gain of 15 yards + if good blocks are made. as for weak defenses or LB/WR match ups that should a instant touchdown if played correctly. With that said the Dolphins need also to be keen on Defense for the variations of the wildcat around the league, im wondering if San Diego or New England are dying for some payback this year. |

I agree that the Wild Cat is here to stay, at least for this season. If it was going "out of style" then teams around the league would not be running it. Did you see the Vikings third pre season game? They used Percy Harvin to line up as QB and run the ball. The Eagles have openly discussed using it with Vick and other teams have left the door open as well.
How can people say that it will become obsolete when more teams are taking their precious time to implement it into their lineup. Now it's not going to be run every play or become even 25% of a team's plays, but it could be run a half dozen times per game and be effective. It's the element of surprise that makes the Wild Cat work so well. |
